Baldwin landscaping and masonry — from Grand Avenue capes to South Baldwin waterfront homes.
We work all over Baldwin and Baldwin Harbor — front yard redesigns, paver walkways and retaining walls on the older Cape Cod and split-level homes off Grand Avenue, and full lawn maintenance routes through Baldwin Park and Baldwin Harbor. Salt air and high water tables mean drainage and plant selection matter here, and we plan for both.
Most of Baldwin was built out in the 1940s and 50s, which means compact lots, mature maples and Norway spruce that have outgrown their beds, and original concrete walkways that have heaved an inch or two out of level. The single most common call we get here is a front-yard reset: pull the overgrown foundation shrubs, regrade the strip against the house so water runs away from it, and rebuild the walk in pavers or bluestone at a proper pitch.
South of Merrick Road the water table climbs and the soil turns sandy over clay. That combination is why so many Baldwin Harbor lawns look fine in May and go patchy by August — the top few inches drain instantly while the layer underneath stays saturated. We fix that with core aeration, compost topdressing and a turf-type tall fescue blend that puts roots down deep enough to find water on its own.
Waterfront and near-waterfront lots in Baldwin get a double hit: tidal groundwater from below and salt-laden wind off the bay. We design around it rather than fighting it. Drainage work usually means a French drain or dry well sized for the roof area feeding it, downspout extensions carried past the foundation, and a yard graded to a discharge point that will not dump on the neighbor.
For planting we lean on salt- and wind-tolerant material — bayberry, inkberry, rosa rugosa, panicum and switchgrass, juniper, and hydrangea in the protected pockets. On hardscape we spec a deeper compacted base and polymeric sand joints so freeze-thaw and shifting sand do not open the field up after two winters.
Baldwin sits inside our core weekly route, so maintenance customers get a fixed cut day and small fixes — a sunken paver, a broken head, a limb over the driveway — get handled on the same visit instead of becoming a separate trip. For construction work we stage material tight to the curb, keep the street swept, and give you a written start and finish window before anything is delivered.
Estimates in Baldwin are usually walked within a couple of days of your call. Text photos of the area to (516) 909-3107 and we can often give you a ballpark before we ever pull up.
