Matching hardscape material to the architecture
The Tudors scattered through South Hempstead carry symmetry and formal materials well — a brick or bluestone walk laid straight to the entry, matched Belgian block edging, restrained proportions. The postwar capes and ranches on the same streets usually look better with a more relaxed layout — a walkway that curves slightly with the bed line instead of running dead straight, paver colors that read warmer against vinyl or aluminum siding. We choose material and layout based on the house in front of us, not a standard package applied to every address.
